Just wanted to mention that I've started tinkering around with the game again. Turns out I didn't lose as much work as I thought I did... and you're all right, the game does sort of deserve to keep going and get a proper work on.

I won't be doing tonnes of work on it but I'll do what I can when I'm not working on the 'serious' game I'm also doing.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

Some news, good and bad.

Bad news is that my hard drive crashed and I lost about two weeks of work. (I do make backups which is why I only lost 2 weeks not all of it) so that kind of kicked me in the pants and made me a little hesitant to redo work.

Good news is that I am currently working on a not-R-rated game with some friends. It's taking up a lot of my time but is very rewarding.

Bad news is this means I don't have the time to devote to Avindale. :(

I don't want to say that I won't be doing any more development work on Avindale, but for the immediate future I don't think I will be able to work on it much if at all. Sorry :(

I'll update this blog if that changes or if I put out a new game update.

I've been working on and off on the game since the last update, some weeks very little gets done and some weeks a lot gets done. It's a good mix of new content and filling in old content that was either not fully enabled, not given appropriate art/sound assets or scripted in a way that caused inconsistencies or non-ideal behaviour in certain circumstances or if things are done in a particular order instead of another.

I have a page of bugs or things I consider a problem in front of me now and today I am planning on going through the list and crossing off each problem, I can give you a few examples:

- "Make out party" text displays after Baron Fishbone joins your host and his slaves are removed from their pens.

I haven't looked at this error yet, but it should be very easy to fix, just a matter of changing an event page to check if a 'switch' is activated (in this case, the baron joining your party is a switch) and then turning the event off if the switch is activated. The switch in question is activated when you kill the sewer creature, I just neglected to modify the text event described above to check for that switch and turn off as a result.

Another thing I am fixing:

- Redo war room to make them walk in everytime the PC enters the room

I wrote some dialogue for the other characters in the war room but realized that they won't get a chance to say some relatively important stuff based on the current way this scene is structured. Currently, the first time the PC enters the war room the big cutscene happens where the game checks your current party members and gives each one dialogue. If you're missing some characters then Clarissa says "We should look for X, we should look for X" about topics that the other characters will tell you. The best solution as I can see it is to split the event into two components: First the walk in sequence where the game checks all the characters you have and then activates their sprites and makes them walk to their seats. The second part would then be a check to see if the characters have spoken their dialogue or not. So in this way each character would get their own introduction sequence the way I intended, though it won't be all at the same time which is no big deal.

Changing the scripting for this is not impossible but it is delicate, this is a complex scene and a complex room. Not the most complex in the game but close to it, fortunately I made this scene later in development so I created it more efficiently and cleanly so it's easier to change. It might take an hour or two.

A third thing:

- Imp says his line twice at the keep entrance

This is a weird one, I thought I fixed this, it's actually given me trouble in the past... not this specific problem but this keep-guarding imp, he's been finicky like some kind of gremlin in the machine. I haven't looked at the event so I don't yet know why, but the imp has three lines, or is supposed to. He first says "The portal created us when it was destroyed, we serve you." and then says "Guarding the keep Mistress." This is normal, and when you talk to him after this he says "guarding the keep" as he's supposed to, but when you capture your father and return to the imp the imp repeats his first line. The cause of this could be a bunch of stuff, but it *should* be fairly obvious once I actually look at the event. I say *should* because this imp has been a pain in the butt before and I can't predict his behaviour very well. This *should* be a five minute job to fix and another minute to check that it works correctly.

a fourth thing:

- bridgekeeper says the wrong PC name

This is a symptom of a bigger problem. The way RPG maker works it requires characters that are different be recorded differently. The PC can either be Ulguth the warrior or Ulguth the arcanist, each one is treated wholly and completely separately. Their experience is tracked separately, their levels are separate, their skill progress, stat progression, equipment that can be equipped, elemental vulnerabilities, these things are all completely independent of each other. When I offer the player at the beginning of the game the opportunity to be either an arcanist or a warrior it locks that it for the rest of the game. Whenever I need to reference the player's name (as opposed to simply writing 'ulguth' I can write /n[9] which tells the game to use the 'n'ame of the 9th character (ulguth the warrior) if you picked ulguth the arcanist and changed your name to something else then the game will check /n[9] for the name it's supposed to use, not /n[11[. I have to specify in the script a conditional branch, basically checking:

is the player character 9?

If so, say "Hello /n[9], welcome to my house!"
if not say "Hello /n[11], welcome to my house!"

That's not how it actually looks in script but that's basically what it does.

This is not the most difficult problem in the world, as you can see I know the solution, but it does increase the work a bit and takes time. I suppose I'm just complaining about it here, but basically if you see a situation where an NPC addresses you with the wrong name, that is why it's doing it. The code is probably just using the /n[9] and not the check-do /n[11].

There are 15 more things on the list in front of me but I won't go into them, this should give you a good idea though of the amount of thought and attention that goes into even the smallest aspect of the game. Something as simple as dialogue can be extremely complex to script, especially with the awful in-built text selection display that comes with vanilla maker.

Anyway, any questions about these kinds of things or anything else anyone wants to ask, fire away!

I'm not putting out a new update today as I want to fix these 15 things and also do more work on new content and environments. There has been new content, but I want to give you guys more.

You are all too patient and wonderful.

There is a new version available Here.

Changelist:

- Game should no longer crash, hang or loop during any event, this includes Almsbridge Eidolon.
- Catacombs area partially added.
- Some balance changes regarding early-game creature encounters, should be easier.
- Items added to game world to make things easier at start.
- "Domain" map view added. This was really hard to get to work but I learned a lot from the process. Please tell me if this is a good thing and how to make it better.
- "Beastiary" added but not fleshed out. I did not code this but I can edit it to add custom monster descriptions. I'm sure you'll all enjoy the flavour text.
- Eidolon encounter expanded.
- New graphic for Fishbone (not currently implemented because I forgot this time)
- Various bug fixes and event improvements
- Stuff I'm probably forgetting.
- New gender switch. Wow! Be a female or a futa! (Events not fully compatible yet)
- New menu splashscreen maybe? I am not sure if I updated this last version or not. Let me know.

Please tell me if the game is slower or laggier than it used to be. I am not sure if it is just my computer or my build or what. It may have something to do with the new Domain menu option I added if I coded it incorrectly.

This should be considered a 'maintenance' release as opposed to a new feature release, despite the Domain and Beastiary being added. BUT the good news is I got a lot of this super hard back end stuff out of the way now and the behind-the-scenes event and variable connecting tightened up so the stuff that is in the game now should be good.

It's getting well past the point where I am able to do a run through to check all the changes I make to the game. When I started it only took 5 minutes to complete the whole of the available content so making sure everything worked together was easy but now it takes like 3 or 4 hours to go through it all. This is good for the game but harder for development.

Anyway, look forward to new content release soon, I am really eager to continue the story.
New post and version soon.Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com34tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-45066708396548690242012-03-10T07:31:00.001-08:002012-03-10T07:31:41.711-08:00An Article at Tentacle SpecialistI've never seen this blog before but it seems to be an aggregate of various h-games with a write-up on each. Very interesting. The most recent one is a write-up of Conquest of Avindale.

New post to come soon, a few new interesting features in the next version including a bestiary.Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-64007188764652676522012-03-03T19:15:00.000-08:002012-03-03T19:15:54.034-08:00New version, re-hostingHi all,

Very sorry about the delay it took me to rehost the files. My original intent was to make some changes and bugfixes to the version that had gone up before I rehosted, but that took longer than I was expecting. Well it's done now!

Download Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?xellum42hamct49

Changelog:

Bugfixes:

- Visiting the top of the mountain should no longer cause the player to stand in front of trees and objects instead of behind them.
- Shop screen should correctly show name of character (bug was back at chargen, fixed.)
- Egon encounter should no longer duplicate Egon
- Character should no longer want to wear the disguise in Almsbridge if the disguise has already been revealed
- Throneroom imp should no longer move twice
- Spelling errors corrected
- Characters will now join at Your Character Level -1 as intended.
- Catacombs no longer as buggy

I should mention one thing about the bug hunting everyone has been doing. It's very helpful for me because you found a bug I never would have found, or could have taken me a long time to find and could have wrecked havoc. The bug in question related to how the game treats the different Ulguth classes. While it is not strictly necessary to do it this way I was building the Ulguth character with two different sets of attribute progressions, so the arcane caster would have higher int and the knight would have more str, etc. Because I was doing it this way it made it so that anytime I referenced the Ulguth character I was only referencing one of them (I think the spellcaster, but not sure) so this resulted in some people experiencing bugs such as a store not showing your name properly, and some characters joining your party at the wrong level, this because they were referencing the 009 Ulguth, not the 014 Ulguth, and if you picked the 014 Ulguth you would not get properly referenced later in the game. If this bug would have gone undetected it would have been awful, as half the games would not be working properly.

Anyway, thanks muchly for the bug testing! I'm just sorry I haven't got as much new content in the game as I would have liked, but what is already in has been improved and tightened up fairly considerably, and it has given me a better ability to create error-free script in the future. Cheers all!

I've been laid-off from work due to economic difficulties of my company!

This is actually something that makes me very happy, as I will be able to once again devote my time to two of my favourite things, working on this game and saving money by eating cat food.

I have no idea where I will be or what quality cardboard box I will be living out of, but I am happy! I mean, terribly anxious, but haaapppyyyy!

Please do not take this as a plea for money, the amount of time I have been able to put into the game over the past few months has been shameful, and well below my own standards, I don't deserve any donations for the game based off of that performance. However, I look forward to getting the game really rolling again because frankly I owe it to you all, you guys have been as keen on this game as I have, and I really deeply appreciate all of your support and comments.

To tell the truth, this game and your support really helped me out of a bad state last year. I was at a very low point. I'll spare you the specifics but suffice it to say I was really lacking in the good things in my life at the time. My new years resolution to start working on the game on January 1st and the support and interest I received from all of you really gave me some validation and helped me out more than you could know. It's silly to say, but the praise and energy I received from everyone while I was working on the game, and my own focus on it, gave me what I needed to pull myself out of that bad place.

It really is silly though, considering it's just some hentai jrpg game, but hey gotta have something right? It even helped give me the confidence to start writing and submitting short stories to magazines, something I could not bring myself to do before, and while that has not yet been the amazing success I was hoping it would be, the feedback I've received from professional editors has encouraged me to keep it up.

The only shame of it all is that despite the satisfaction and fulfillment I get from doing the game design and fiction writing, it's not something I can make a living off of, at least not yet.

Regardless of all that I'm a bit rambling now, let me just end by saying once again thank you to you all. Your interest in this project has helped me out personally and dearly. I look forward to repaying you all by finishing the game and making many more in the future. Thank you!

I think you will find this release to be more significant than any other, as it contains all the current contents and work on the game to date. It is not finished or polished in some places so you may find it glitchy, buggy or otherwise unbalanced.

Please use the comments below to describe any problems you encountered while playing and any other comments. Thank you all very much for your patience! I hope you won't have to wait so much in the future for new version releases.

Working full time is great for the bank account but tragic for my free time.

I'm very happy to say though that I think about the game every day on my commute home, today especially I was thinking "There are these people that are really interested in the game you're making, you shouldn't keep letting them down by NOT working on the game when you get home."

So I understand your pain, I've been on that side of the fence before (watching Slavemaker development!) where there's all this awesome game that's being made but it's just taking soooo long.

Know that I still care, and I'll see what I can do to pull together some extra time in my day to do game work, even a little.

(bonus news: I'm moving closer to the city soon so I get an extra hour and a half a day of free time. that should be good time to work on game!)

Again sorry I haven't been getting more game made, but when it is eventually complete I'm sure you guys will think it was worth the wait. Although that's a terrible thing to have to say. so... ah... 'when it's ready' D:Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com46tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-25006861667792252822011-05-13T13:26:00.000-07:002011-05-13T13:26:48.810-07:00Still aliveHeyo folks.

I'm still alive here, and thinking about the game I just still don't have any time to do anything about it. Oh hey, you know this job-search thing is taking way longer then usual. Someone said to me the other day that we were in some kind of recession? Goodness you wouldn't know it by looking out a window! Anywho, seems like nobody wants to hire anymore so I'm kind of stuck, shucks!

Anyway, just wanted to remind you guys that I'm not dead and the game is still on my mind even if I can't do anything about it. Will keep you all informed.Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-7441315817692595342011-04-23T05:19:00.000-07:002011-04-23T05:19:43.471-07:00Lack of updatesHey everyone,

I know it's been like, forever since I posted an update. This is because not a lot of work has gone into CoA in the past little while. I am frankly too busy with trying to find solid work in my city and until that is sorted out I simply don't have the time to worry about or enjoy anything else. Just like as in "Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs" I have to sort out the base-line stuff of food, survival and so on before I can do anything about self expression, creativity, etc etc.

This sucks as much for me as it does for you. You guys don't get to play CoA yet and I don't get to have CoA finished and tucked under my belt yet.

The game is pretty solidly a third finished, some good mechanics are in there and the way I want them and some additional spells and effects and graphics have been made. Aside from mapping and scripting the remaining two-thirds of the game there is still some pretty solid work that needs to be done on a few sprites but it's not so bad anymore now that the protagonist is done and the design for the baron has been set down.

Anyway I'm not here to ramble, but when I get stable in this real world thing I'll pour the work on CoA and get the story cooking. (I know now pretty much the whole story progression and development, oh man you guys are gonna love it!)

Stay tuned, but patiently. :PMichushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-64082459128227707802011-04-09T18:00:00.000-07:002011-04-11T16:30:40.344-07:00New demo version out - 1.07.1*edit* There was a hilarious bug in version 1.05, if you downloaded that it won't work at all. Links have been updated with version 1.06 which should work correctly.

**edit** links have been further updated with version 1.07 which contains a custom icon for the game file, fixes the map-crashes and is in a Zip file rather then a self extracting executable, so AV programs should be a little less paranoid.

***edit*** V. 1.07.1 is out, fixed two crash bugs and slightly lowered difficulty of some enemies, (Bandit & cockatrices)

Since it's been requested so much, I put together a new demo that contains all the features and updates put into the game since the last demo version. Since there are so many (admittedly minor) improvements I won't mention them here, but suffice it to say you should have a much cleaner and more complete experience and it should start feeling quite a bit like an actual game now.

The demo only features about 10 maps I think and it's not representative of the final experience since it's missing two recruitable npcs, several cutscenes, 30+ maps and so on.

Of course I'm only about a third or so done with the game. I haven't had a lot of time to work on the game lately as I've been spending most of my days looking for work downtown and enjoying a few 'lovely' temp jobs.

When things settle down I can plug away at it for a few good hours and get a cutscene or a few maps done, it's just a matter of time until it's complete. I would love to have the game finished and done for you guys but I can only work on it so fast. :P

Anyway, hope you enjoy the cleaner demo experience. As always the game is contained in a self-extracting executable so simply give it a folder to empty out in and it should contain all the necessary DLLs and other add-ons to function correctly without needing to install a run time package or RPG Maker XP. If it doesn't work for you for some reason let me know and I'll look into it.

Oh and do feel free to spread the word to your friends about the game, the more people enjoying it the happier I'll be. Oh also: If I receive enough in donations I'll try to get Faustie to whip up a few commissions (title screen, alternative character sexes (female, herm, erect, etc)).

Cheers.
We don't need no stinkin' bandits!Hello one and all.

Many new improvements to speak of including some cutscenes and new maps, but I'll show a screenshot of one of the new encounters in the game. It's not hard to find, but there are several interesting choices to make at the Skullfuckers Bandit Base pictured here:

There's some tweaks I still need to make to the scene (weather) and fill in some of the consequences and code mechanics (money loss, soul gain, etc... bandit acquisition as well.)

Anyway, progress is good and I've got a lot more time lately to work on the game but due to the lack of development last month I'm going to have to push the release date back a bit. It really depends on how polished a game you guys want on the first version release.... and since I'd like to put my best foot forward rather then chase after crappy little bugs that ruin an adventure... well, I'll try to put out a pretty solid game on the first run through before concentrating on making a Deluxe version with new sound effects, adventures and so on.

I'll definitely be working on a second game after this one, and I already have a few ideas kicking around in my head which I'll make a poll about in the future.

As always I would like to thank the few people who have donated for development so far, your donations give me enthusiasm and support for the project and help pay for those pots of delicious coffee I chug down day after day.

Cheers and thanks for reading.Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-29124888975393950012011-03-08T12:16:00.000-08:002011-03-08T12:16:05.279-08:00Check inHello everyone,

Though I have been very distracted in life lately and haven't had the time to put much work into the game I am still chipping away at it here and there. I have recently added in a new town to the game and have coded in the first optional 'heroic' action for the character along with some interesting battles and dialogue I think. So far no picture-based sex scene but that's only because the area I've been working on doesn't need or can't fit one in. As the game progresses and more areas are completed, I will see where I can put in some scenes like that.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm still here and still working on it. When I get a considerable amount more work done I will send a beta-build to the testers (bless them) and give you guys some screencaps.

Live and love safe, everybody!Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-6724784143755536192011-02-09T19:23:00.000-08:002011-02-09T19:23:58.103-08:00Wednesday UpdateHey folks,

Sorry about a lack of an update on the weekend, I had to take care of some family matters out of town.

Additionally game-development will be light for the next few days while I spend more time and energy looking for some full or part time work in my area. Vancouver has a pretty bustling economy so I should be able to find something.

I will continue to keep you all appraised on game progress and will probably find time to put in the first picture/sex scene combo event in the meantime.

Stay tuned!Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-59076810025135454912011-01-28T18:05:00.000-08:002011-01-28T18:08:49.029-08:00Friday Night UpdateHello readers!

I've been busily and steadily working on the game and now we're up to 41 maps with a heck of a nice game shaping up. I've finished mapping and started eventing the second town in the game now and also been working on combat mechanics including skills and other options. I had a few ideas for some new polls as well which I'll put up with this post. I'll elaborate a little on the poll choices:

Question:
What are the most important components of the game for you?

For the answer 'Combat novelty and balance' I mean to refer to a variety of skills that interact with one another in interesting ways such as the commonly used Elemental Combos in games like Ogre Battle (Fire+Earth=Volcano). Alternatively or in conjunction with that there is the idea of Lust/sex as an element or possibly as a stat like HP or SP.

For the answer 'Sex in Combat' I mean to refer to spells that force orgasms on the opponent, Lust as a Stat like HP/SP, basically sexuality taking an important part of the combat. (This is a lot more work then the first choice)

For the answer 'Story/plot' I mean to refer to everything that happens outside of a combat screen. This includes character development and portrayal, and all the things that make a good setting and storyline.

For the answer 'Sex in sprite form' I mean to refer to scenes like the ones already in the demo such as in the cabin or the Colosseum.

For the answer 'Picture + sex description and choices' I mean to refer to how it's done in Legend of Queen Opala. These are not especially difficult to do, and I'm going to be implementing several of them in my game, the trouble is matching the story as it exists with pictures available to me. As I can't draw a stickman without fucking it up, I rely exclusively on borrowed art. In the case of Faustie I have several interesting art pieces I'll be using but there's always room for more.

For the answer 'More Game' I mean do you care about this being a game like... well, a game. Think Final Fantasy 6.

For the answer 'More Sex' I mean do you just want an interactive space to indulge in all kinds of described depravity with little to not overarching plot of any concern. The 'game' merely being a vehicle towards getting your fap on.

---

You can select more then one answer and if you want the game to be equal parts game and sex (or at least balanced) just check both options and it comes out the same.

---

I've been working on trying to find a MIDI music maker of some kind to use for the project but to be honest it's been trouble enough developing the skills to script the game plus the sprite-editing I've had to learn how to do as well and frankly I have as much musical talent as I do artistic talent. Unfortunately while the tools and techniques used for sprite editing are relatively approachable I've had no such luck with finding any way to make any kind of music or sound effects for the game aside from taking them from other sources or using the included audio with the RTP. Too bad, but I can certainly get by.

Thanks for reading and keeping up with the game and news. I'm still on schedule for a march release but I'm picking up some part time work to pay the bills so I don't know how that will affect development time. I already know that I'll be making a sequel and frankly I think this is what I want to do as a career. The game-development part, not necessarily the sex-game part. I haven't fully decided if I'll be making the sequel a sex game like this one or a more toned down version (still adult rated, but not so explicit). I'll put up a vote about that after you guys play the finished version.

Cheers.Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-9062518693139523382011-01-22T15:51:00.000-08:002011-01-26T18:38:57.479-08:00New demo version out - development number crunchingNew demo version out, v# 1.04:

Get v 1.04 Here

Changelog:

- new protagonist sprite graphics and battler graphic (minor flaws in battler graphic will be corrected next version)
- added 4 skills to right-side summoning crystal
- graphical improvements for intro sequence
- logical/if-then improvements across the board
- sound, etc customization

Of course the demo is a work in progress and will continue to be updated occasionally, carrying with it all improvements made in the main game. Development of the main game varies between making new things and improving existing components. Since few 'new' things are added to the demo, you guys will only see the improvements that take effect across the board or are demo-realm specific. For example there are 10 maps, two recruitable npcs, several custom items and an extensive cutscene that are in the game and working 100% but not included in the demo for spoiler and other obvious reasons.

Enjoy! Feedback as always is welcome.

---

So far the game numbers 28 maps and growing gameplay opportunities. As we are in day 22 of development I believe we are on schedule for a march deployment.

If each person who downloaded demo v# 1.03 donated a dollar to development I would be able to continue production of the game on those funds alone for five months. As I only need two in order finish the game that seems to suggest a sequel, now doesn't it? So far however the donation jar is empty and I've been spending my time recently looking for some part time work to prop up funds. No worries about me not finishing the game, I wouldn't threaten anything like that - I still intend to complete it - but by spending time working I lose time that could be spent on development and so the release date will be pushed back. Nothing can do about that. I'll continue to keep everyone appraised of progress!

Oh and.. while I'm here, how about a sneak peak of a scene in the game?

The results of the latest vote are in.

For the question "What do you think of Faustie's picture?"
25% of you said It's Incredible
51% of you said It's Really Good
12% of you said It's Okay
5% of you said 'I Don't Like It'
and 5% of you just don't like the style.

The majority here is Positive with a large portion following up with Very Positive but a not insignificant number of people are not satisfied with the image. Let's try to discern the reasons why:

Many of you reported in comments or forum threads that you're not fond of the testicles or the lack of an erection or both. I can appreciate and agree with the principle. I'll be sending an email to Faustie wondering if he would be interested in adding some gender-variations for us including full-female. In the event that I get a full suite of gender-forms I will try to incorporate several or many of those forms into the game as choices either during char-gen or during gameplay. (doing one would make the other easy)

I will make a vote option regarding character gender next.Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-44970927443213561602011-01-13T14:48:00.000-08:002011-01-13T14:48:11.848-08:00Development StatusHello all,

Development has been progressing steadily and efficiently over the past few days, following a 'boom and bughunt' style of development where I lay out a new quest or area rapidly and in one big push before sending it out to my betatesters. The betatesters run through the first iteration and report back to me all of the bugs and logical flaws they find as well as comments. Usually by the time I get the first reports back I am already finishing up the second iteration of a room or scene sequence. Allow me to explain what I mean by 'iteration':

The first version of a map is usually quite barebones with the text filled into a scene but usually without the underlying mechanics fully fleshed out yet. During the next iteration individual mechanical components are added and tested one by one by me and then I ship the whole production to the betatesters who run through the whole game to see how new components interact with existing mechanics. It is especially crucial that the betatesters run through the full game because frequently during development I go back to older maps and either change or improve some aspect of the game (for example adding class-choice at the beginning intro sequence) which naturally has significant impact on the rest of the game.

After the second or third iteration of a particular map sequence or quest I usually leave that area to work on new components, occasionally spending time to go back and link old and new components together or finish development of mechanics that rely on some other feature that I have not yet put in.

It is in this fashion that development has progressed and will likely to continue to progress. I still have two party member quests to complete, the main game storyline and also some Keep features.Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-88273301793445762252011-01-11T17:53:00.000-08:002011-01-11T17:53:54.923-08:00Protagonist Sprite WIP + Second Party Member questUsing existing models as a guide the following sprite has been created and is 75% complete, with only an 'up facing' sequence left to do.
When asked the question "What do you think of the name of the game?" the results were:

39% of you responded with "It's great!"
41% of you responded with "It's good"
16% of you responded with "It's okay"
and two people thought it was not okay.

This shows us clearly that the majority are either satisfied or very satisfied with the game's name. But really how much does a name matter? Isn't it the game that counts?

Yes and no.

A name is a first impression, a name is a pretty face that invites you to learn about her personality. While a name doesn't change the quality of what's inside, it does change how people initially perceive a thing. If the game were called 'The Adventures of Hoola-Hoop Hickory Stick' I don't think people would be getting the right impression from what the game offers.

Part of my reasoning about choosing THIS name before something else is mainly in the fact that a lot of RPG games are 'quest of this' and 'quest of that' and since this RPG was a sort of inverse of the typical formula, that made a 'conquest of something' seem like a good choice since it pulled a little bit from the established pattern but also clearly shows itself as something different. Avindale started off as Avingon but that's a place in france, so rather then confuse people I switched it to Avindale which google suggests doesn't exist or isn't anything particular, so google results should make this game show up pretty high in the pageranks.

The name is extremely unlikely to be changed at this point, especially seeing as how satisfied people are with it on top of it's other virtues.Michushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07930011421092681385noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373425499425049143.post-17245303336636220152011-01-09T23:47:00.000-08:002011-01-09T23:47:26.161-08:00Faustie (of Faustie.com) drew up a sweet portrait of the protagonist.
Please download latest version and judge from that.)

Woo! Milestone day. Has it really only been 8 days since development started?

The demo is officially out and probably 99% bug free. While the game is still filled with placeholders and is missing some content that will be included in those maps in the final version it's still a great day! I wanted to thank everyone, especially those of the Futanari Palace forum, for their extremely helpful and very efficient bug-hunting and brainstorming! I wanted to shout out special thanks to the following people:
