New demo version out - development number crunching

New demo version out, v# 1.04:

Get v 1.04 Here

Changelog:

- new protagonist sprite graphics and battler graphic (minor flaws in battler graphic will be corrected next version)
- added 4 skills to right-side summoning crystal
- graphical improvements for intro sequence
- logical/if-then improvements across the board
- sound, etc customization

Of course the demo is a work in progress and will continue to be updated occasionally, carrying with it all improvements made in the main game.  Development of the main game varies between making new things and improving existing components.  Since few 'new' things are added to the demo, you guys will only see the improvements that take effect across the board or are demo-realm specific.  For example there are 10 maps, two recruitable npcs, several custom items and an extensive cutscene that are in the game and working 100% but not included in the demo for spoiler and other obvious reasons.

Enjoy!  Feedback as always is welcome.

So far the game numbers 28 maps and growing gameplay opportunities.  As we are in day 22 of development I believe we are on schedule for a march deployment.

If each person who downloaded demo v# 1.03 donated a dollar to development I would be able to continue production of the game on those funds alone for five months.  As I only need two in order finish the game that seems to suggest a sequel, now doesn't it?  So far however the donation jar is empty and I've been spending my time recently looking for some part time work to prop up funds.  No worries about me not finishing the game, I wouldn't threaten anything like that - I still intend to complete it - but by spending time working I lose time that could be spent on development and so the release date will be pushed back.  Nothing can do about that.  I'll continue to keep everyone appraised of progress!

Oh and.. while I'm here, how about a sneak peak of a scene in the game?

  1. Oh I forgot to mention, there is one new map west of the village that is accessible in the demo. The path continues on for quite a ways with a lot of content, but for now only the one map is what you're gonna get!

  3. Google says:

"Here's the fix if you havn't already found out. I had the same problem when trying to play the Aveyond games.

The problem was that I had DEP (Data Execution Protection) enabled. For whatever reason, the error message gave me the AppCrash error above instead of the standard message about "DEP has closed the program."

To solve the problem, I added the application to the DEP exclusion list and everything worked again.

To change your DEP list do the following:

    1. Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

    2. Click Advanced System Settings. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Under Performance, click Settings.

    4. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

    4. now browse to your game that is not working because of RGSS error msg and closing without solution. For example mine was aveyond.exe

done.. game works again :-) You might have to reboot"

  5. I'm not sure if I'm just missing something or not but when the download finishes it is named 'Conquest of Avindale demo v' with no file extension or anything. What am I supposed to do with it?

There's a hash (#) in the filename that might be the cause of your problem. Try renaming the file to:

    'Conquest of Avindale demo v.zip'
    or
'Conquest of Avindale demo v# 1.04.zip'

It is a zip file so you could try opening it with an unarchiving program.

I'll change my naming scheme to leave out special characters in the filename in the future.

  8. I think the dificulty is a bit too high, i tried the demo and there is only one potion, no heal checkpoint, or heal crystal, or anything else, once the sp on the partner ends you are simply finished. I know it's only a demo but i honestly believe the dificulty is too high. i mean i haven't been able to finish the demo once(explore every screen, see every npc, fight every enemy).

  9. Fair point, combat balancing is something I only just started to look at. Needless to say the full game should be balanced better.

  10. I'll agree the difficulty is on the high side, but it's not impossible at least. I bought some hp and sp restore items from the item shop you get from corrupting the shop, and was able to fight every enemy, including the skeleton knight. Biggest issue I had was the paralysis effect hit almost everytime, except for a few lucky times that were the difference between victory and seeing that nice game over screen.
